Garden Room Office vs. Office Extension

Garden office vs. Office Extension

More and more businesses are embracing flexible work schedules and encouraging remote work among their staff members. Flexible work schedules result in happier workers, and organisations can save office space costs by allowing staff to work from home.  Similar to this, a lot of individuals are turning to freelancing, which allows for the flexibility of working from home and setting your own hours, which is a very appealing proposition, especially for families with young children.

Garden offices and office extensions are becoming more and more common because of this. an additional area that is separate from the family home and offers a peaceful setting for focusing on the day’s job. We are here to tell you the differentiating advantages and disadvantages of garden offices vs. garden extension.

You can either buy a garden office, or have an extension built onto your house. Both offer you different advantages, so let’s have a look at the pluses and minuses for each one.

Separate and Professional working space

An excellent method to “work from home” and have a private workspace away from the house is to install an insulated garden office on your property. Many of our clients find that setting up a garden office helps them to better separate their personal and business lives, whilst also maximising their workdays. Additionally, choosing an insulated building will enable you to use your garden room as a workspace throughout the year for a fraction of the cost of an extension and will be the shortest morning commute you have ever done.

Attaching an office extension to your home minimises the separation between work and home life. There are far more possibilities of disturbance when working within the home, whereas you can have a home office that no one can disturb.

At Total Garden Rooms we are able to create you, your very own bespoke garden office with its very own bathroom. This further allows you to separate work from home, meaning if you have any employees or visitors stopping by, no one has to come into your home’s private space. Check out our Lagan garden room to see how we have designed our garden office.

No planning permission

This is one the main reasons as to why building a garden office has an advantage over building an office extension. Building an extension can be a long and tedious task, as it requires a lot of preparation, with architects and planning permission requirements.

When you commission an extension to your home, you will be required to pay for custom architectural design work, and will likely need to receive planning permission for the construction. Our garden rooms rarely require planning permission, which is a major advantage of investing in a garden office rather than building an office extension. However, there are a few exceptions where planning permission may be required, such as if you are planning on using the unit as a self-contained living area but again, one of our design experts will advise you through this.

No invasive building processes or preparations

Building an extension can take a lot of time, especially if there are problems and difficulties granting planning permission. ‘If you are building a simple extension, like a 3-metre rear extension, it would take around 3-4 months for construction to be completed. Building a larger or double height rear extension could extend the build time to 6 months.’ Whereas a garden office take only up to 3 weeks to build. This allows you have to have an entirely new working office space almost immediately.

When building an extension it can cause a lot of disruption to your home and over a long period of time due it being attached to your home. A garden office due to the length of time it takes to build and it’s separation from your home, it won’t disrupt you or your family.

Building a garden office allows you to create a home office that suits your business or work. Perhaps you are either you are working from home in an office job, or are a physiotherapists and have patients coming in or you have a dog grooming business and don’t want the animal hair getting into the house. For whatever job you are using your garden office for, at Total Garden Rooms we have you covered.

Low-Cost

Increased space in your home can frequently be solved more affordably by adding a garden room. Naturally, depending on the dimensions and needs of your garden room. In the UK, a typical 4 × 5 m addition may cost up to £100,000, whereas a comparable garden structure with insulation could cost £30,000 and a simple building as little as £10,000.

Garden offices can be built for a lot less money than garage and loft conversions, and they come with the extra benefit of more room rather than sacrificing it for one use in favour of another. You can create an entirely new workspace by building a garden office.

To be aware of, a quality building can increase a home’s worth by up to 15%. That might potentially generate a profit above your purchasing price. According to estate agents, since the pandemic, homeowners have sought for upscale more room.

An excellent method to “work from home” and have a private workspace away from the house is to install an insulated garden office on your property.
